Ghost y su servicio de blogs de pago no-lucrativo

Ghost lanzó su servicio de blogs autoalojados, con precios que van desde los 5 dólares mensuales por un blog con hasta 10.000 páginas vistas, hasta 80 dólares por medio millón de vistas y 30 blogs. Por desgracia no existe versión gratuita ni de prueba.

Es evidente que no pretenden competir con WordPress.com ni con Blogger o Tumblr. Lo cual creo que va a ser un handicap en la captación de usuarios. La barrera del precio del servicio, unido a la dificultad de instalación (debido a los requisitos especiales que conlleva) de la versión libre en tu propio servidor, no le hace mucho favor a la difusión de una plataforma que pretendía reinventar el blogging, y que de momento se queda simplemente en el aspecto estético.

Aun así, insisten en que no son una empresa, sino una organización o lo que sea no-lucrativa.

Personalmente me gusta Ghost, creo que mejora mucho la experiencia de usuario de WordPress, por ejemplo, pero también creo que tal y como está planteado actualmente no se puede esperar que vaya a tener un gran éxito a corto plazo.

Following three weeks of intense testing after launching to our 6,000 Kickstarter backers, today we are releasing an updated Ghost 0.3.2 to everyone in the world. No se si recordáis Ghost, el sistema de blogging desarrollado por John O'Nolan que se financió a través de Kickstarter. Pues ya está disponible para que te lo puedas descargar e instalar en tu servidor.

En la web oficial también hay algunos themes que se pueden descargar de manera gratuita.

Yo ya tengo mi copia y me dispongo a instalarlo para probarlo. En breve, una review amplia sobre mi experiencia.

John would just steal from WP so blatantly and try to replace one good platform with another. He could have worked on the Core, he could have made it so much better as to force Automattic to consider his direction as the right path forward. He could have influenced the lives of so many WP lovers in such a positive way, but instead he chose to give up all that just because it would be a little more difficult to make the same stuff in PHP than it is in NodeJS
